TUDOR TRENDS
Typography & Print Design
As a result of this project I was awarded membership to the
International Society of Typographic Designers in 2017
Elaborate style, with great swathes of immaculately detailed fabrics, ostentatious jewellery and hair. The Tudors were well known for their sense of fashion and their influence can still be seen some 400 years later. So for this brief I wanted to look into these fashion trends, worn during Tudor era England, exploring the types of clothing considered fashionable and whose influence became the latest fad.
My choice of typography was influenced, during my research, by typefaces used in the 16th century. I felt it added to the piece, lending authenticity to my design. I chose Garamond for the main typeface throughout my book, for it is based upon printing press letterforms used during that time period. I also chose a Blackletter style typeface called Old London for my display type. Its style reflects the, stereotypical, hand written lettering used during that era.
